PaulB Just read the story behind how the Songs were created. Read the lyrics whilst listening to a couple of tracks. Powerful stuff! Loved it.

Meet me in the morning she said, when there’s no one else around, Ah Ah Ah Bring everything you need, we won’t be back here after we leave, Ah Ah Ah It happened every time, I saw her face It happened time, her hands reached mine It happened every time, it happened every single time yea Ah Ah Ah Ah Standing in the rain, washing over and away, Ah Ah Ah Standing in the rain, on that morning but she never came, Ah Ah Ah It happened every time, I saw her face It happened every single time, her hands reached mine It happened every time, it happened every single time yea Standing in the rain, and she never came, left standing in the rain In the dead of night, they kicked down the door Someone heard you scream, there was blood on the floor No one’s seen you since, but we know what they do How could we let this happen, how could we let this happen to you? Standing in the rain Ah Ah Ah Left standing in the rain Ah Ah Ah Left standing in rain Ah Ah Ah Ah

What are you doing here, I thought you’d be long gone by now, after all that you said How you were too good for me, and all along you knew, sure took your time telling me Since you’re here, I’ve got something to say, not that you’ll listen to me anyway You set the fire and the bridges are burning between you and me You want forgiveness to move on I’m telling you now, you’ve got me all wrong You want me to set you free That’s up to you not down to me, that’s up to you not down to me Thinking back and I should have seen the signs, seems to me I was just some kind of compromise Never about me it was always about you now the bridges are burning, and you don’t know what to do I said the bridges are burning and you don’t know what to do So you want forgiveness to move on I’ll tell you again, you’ve got me all wrong You want me to set you free That’s up to you not down to me, that’s up to you not down to me, that’s up to you….not down to me Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Argh

Time is running out, for me. Storm waters flooding in you see Washing all that’s gone before. Wash away then I’m gone Let’s pretend, again and again and again and again Let’s pretend, I know it’s pointless But let’s pretend this will never end oh let’s pretend You don’t need to say a word to me, we’ve everything we need you see All we are more than we have. Everything within our grasp Let’s pretend, again and again and again and again Let’s pretend, I know it’s pointless But let’s pretend, this will never end, oh let’s pretend I can’t second guess the next step. What is waiting ‘round the bend, let’s pretend There will be the same as now. We will meet again somehow There will be the same as now. We will meet again…somehow

Leaking 02:46
Thoughts and memories are leaking out Long time buried but now they’re getting through Somethings that I need to face, things I need to do No need to worry it’s not about you don’t need your blessing I’m gonna take it from here None of your business it’s not something you need to be involved with Can’t keep on running, it’s time to face this head on Can’t keep ignoring the skeletal elephant in the room No more places to hide, this is way overdue Thoughts and memories are leaking out Thoughts and memories are leaking out Lost days and nights, lost days and nights Gotta put it right, gotta make it right

Talking to strangers that resent the intrusion, a smile on the wind as they hurry by Alone in the corner again. Alcohol container. Reddening eyes and a dark, dark mood. Here I go again A sound a look and you are by my side you were my harbour when I fought against the tide I know we’re not talking. Looks like it’s over Looks to me like we are heading to hell Solace in liquid. Definition hazy. I know we’re not talking; the words elude me. I don’t know what to say. A sound a look and you are by my side. You were my harbour when I fought against the tide. la la la la la la la la la la la la…..etc. I know now, it’s all gone wrong. I know now I’m all alone, all alone, I know now So I’m talking to strangers that resent the intrusion, look away as they rush on by Alone in the corner again. Alcohol container. Reddening eyes and a dark, dark mood. Here I go again A sound a look and you are by my side. You were my harbour when I fought against the tide. A sound a look and you are by my side. You were my harbour when I fought against the tide. You were my harbour when I fought against the tide You were my harbour when I fought against the tide You were my harbour, my harbour, my harbour, my harbour, when I fought against the tide You were my harbour, my harbour, my harbour, when I fought against the tide You were my harbour when I fought against the tide.

Odd man Out 03:52
Odd man out, last man standing. I’m confused, that’s not unusual She hit hard and I was reeling. And she cut deep, I was bleeding from the wound You don’t know, anything about me You don’t want to know, anything about me Alone again, no surprise The wounds they heal, cauterized. It’s going to be different this time Gonna be better, better this time You don’t know anything about me You don’t want to know anything about me You really don’t want know anything about me About me, about me, about me.

What you get 04:19
I’m not, the man, you seem to think that I am What is going on. What is going on. What is going on inside your head, I need to know…. What is it you want from me? What you get is what you see What is it you want from me? What you get. You try so hard, to bend a shape me, I’m not a toy, a canvas to be drawn What is it you want from me? What you get is what you see. What is it you want from me? What you get. This is what you get. Don’t do something you will regret I am just a man, that is all I am. That is all that I am It’s time to stop, to stop and take a look at what we build and why we’re goin’ crazy What is it you want from me? What you get is what you see. What is it you want from me? This is all that you get. This is all you get This is all you get Oooh Oooh Ooohaaahh Yea; there you go!

about

UPDATE: Some recent feedback,

'Do yourself a favor; buy this album, sit down with a beverage and just listen to it all the way through. Fantastic experience.'

'A cross between Antony and the Johnsons and Ian Curtis'.

'The album is fantastic - gave me a stripped down Pink Floyd vibe.'

'Great voice and echoes of Jeff Buckley sprang to mind. Which can't be bad'

What will you think?

"Down to the Wire is an emotional rollercoaster you get straight back on. A great record" Danny Mac Testifying Time Radio Show.

"A great, great album....music to bleed by" Gwen Ever Low Life in High Heels Radio Show.

This album has had a convoluted journey. During the lock down in late 2020 I was asked to do a live stream gig from a Houston venue. That fell through at the last minute. However, I’d got what I thought was a great set of old and new songs together, so I decided to do a live stream independently from a top-quality studio.

That was supposed to happen on 14th November 2020. It didn’t; my mother died that day.

Fast forward five months and my mother’s death had put everything into perspective, and I was wondering why I had not done anything to properly capture these songs. What the hell was I waiting for? So, on 25th April 2021, working with Josh Applebee, I booked 4 hours in Houston’s Wire Road Studios.

My intention was to record as many songs as I could in a live session; no overdubs, no drop ins, just as good a single take as I could get. I wanted to capture the energy of the songs that I had been getting from the rehearsal space. Didn’t need to be perfect, a warts’n’all representation. After setting everything up for audio and video we had 90 minutes of unadulterated recording time.

After the fact I contacted Paul Gray of The Damned to see if he was interested in adding bass to a couple of the songs. Luckily, he said yes.
Down to the Wire is the result.
